Dr. Harry Spalding was born in Bardstown, Kentucky in 1927 where he attended primary and secondary school. He received a B.A. in Education in January of 1951 from the University of Kentucky. He served in the army in 1951 – 1952 during the Korean War. He taught science one year at the high school level. He attended the University of Louisville Medical School and received a M.D. degree in 1957. He began practice in 1959 in Bardstown, Kentucky as a family physician. Then he became Charter Diplomate American Academy of Family Practice. He served on the board of trustees of the Kentucky Medical Association for three years and served on the State Board of Education for one year. He served on the Bardstown City Council for twenty years and as Mayor of Bardstown for five years. He is the founder of the Old Bardstown Village, Civil War Museum of the Western Theatre, and Museum of Women’s Role in the Civil War. He also created Veteran’s Memorial Park in Bardstown, Kentucky. He has published many books which can be seen on this website.
